Aston Martin appoints new CEO

Aston Martin’s new CEO, Andy Palmer, has taken-up his new role at the helm of the luxury car manufacturer.

Marking his new appointment, Palmer introduced himself to the workforce and toured the manufacturing facility.

Palmer is a British-born chartered engineer, chartered manager and businessman with 35 years of automotive industry experience. As the new Aston Martin CEO, the 51-year-old assumes operational responsibility for all aspects of the business. He started his professional career in 1979 aged 16, as an apprentice at Automotive Products (UK).

In his new role, Palmer will lead the company in its next phase of product creation, succeeding Dr Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin’s chief executive for the past 14 years.

He described joining the luxury sports car-maker from Nissan as “a decision of the head and the heart” and pledged to deliver “a new era of growth”.

He said: “Being asked to lead Aston Martin, an iconic brand with tremendous global recognition and potential, was an opportunity impossible to refuse. Together we will create the next generation of Aston Martin products for the future.”

He started his professional career in 1979 aged 16, as an apprentice at Automotive Products (UK). After six years with Austin Rover, he joined Nissan in 1991, embarking on a 24-year career with the Japanese firm which saw him become its chief planning officer.

In 2012 he was named the automotive industry’s most influential British executive by Auto Express.
