EU Commission releases internal market strategy

UK manufacturers' organisation, the EEF, has responded to the EU Commission's newly released internal market strategy, which aims to equalise business opportunities across Europe and update the Single Market to reflect today's realities.

Fergus McReynolds, Director of EU Affairs at EEF, said: “Manufacturers have long called for improvements to deepen and strengthen the European Single Market and today’s announcement is an important next step in delivering this. The single market is important for business, and for Britain, as one of the key positives of the UK’s Membership of the EU. The measures announced today will be welcomed by manufacturers, particularly SMEs. However, they will want the EU to move at pace to deliver this strategy and create a better business environment so that EU businesses can thrive, grow, and employ more people.”

Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen, responsible for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, said: “Further strengthening and deepening the EU Single Market is the most important part of the Investment Plan for Europe. We need to remove investment restrictions and create new opportunities for consumers, professionals and businesses. And the Single Market must keep up with the times: innovative business models must be encouraged and welcomed into the Single Market."
