Top 10 most sustainable manufacturing corporations in the world
Which manufacturers are committed to sustainable development? Corporate Knights' 2017 Global 100 index reveals the world's most sustainable corporations. We dig out the top ten manufacturing firms from the list.
10 | Siemens
According to the Corporate Knights data, Siemens’ performance in energy productivity is outstanding, with a score of 94 percent.
Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser told an internal publication: “Competitive earning power is the prerequisite for added value for society. Only those businesses that can generate income on a sustained, financially successful basis can be relied on to contribute to society.
9 | Cisco
In 2016, Cisco reported these highlights:
- It used electricity generated from renewable sources for 77 percent of its electricity demand.
- 100 percent of Cisco's manufacturing partners and logistic providers and 92 percent of key component suppliers reported their greenhouse gas emissions to CDP.
- It achieved 34 percent of worldwide reduction in Cisco Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions against 2007 baseline.
8 | Philips

7 | BMW
BMW Group has proudly implemented the United Nations Global Compact Ten Principles at all of its global locations since 2001. Its sustainability strategy also supports the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in autumn 2015.
6 | Nokia
The CEO of Nokia states: "Sustainability remains an important foundation for our business...our activities focus on four priority areas: improving people’s lives with technology, protecting the environment, conducting our business with integrity, and respecting our own people".
5 | Schneider
Schneider Electric is committed to economic opportunity and financial inclusion for all. Its Access to Energy program has trained more than 113,000 people in Africa, Asia and South America (many of them disadvantaged youths) in energy management.
4 | Peugeot
The car manufacturer has three pillars of CSR: 1) a commitment to sustainable mobility 2) a societal commitment to the regions in which it operates 3) a social commitment, with the implementation of innovative and needs-adapted practices enabling employees to enhance their talents.
3 | Adidas
Adidas has six strategic priorities for 2020 These are: 1) valuing water 2) innovating materials and process 3) conserving energy 4) empowering people 5) improving health 6) inspiring action.
2 | Intel
As of 2016, Intel has conserved enough water since 1998 to sustain more than 520,000 US homes for an entire year. Furthermore, the technology company has remained the largest voluntary purchaser of green power in the US.
