Comau's Automation Solutions for Outside of Manufacturing

Comau is expanding automation solutions across the sectors, from food to pharma. Nicole Clement says the company wants to make automation more accessible

In recent years, automation machinery manufacturer Comau has seen a rise in demand for its products, especially in sectors like warehousing, logistics, food, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and shipbuilding. Comau is designing its automation solutions with these industries in mind, considering new scenarios and how to streamline production processes in order to avoid supply chain disruption. Nicole Clement, Comau’s Chief Business Unit Leader for Advanced Automation Solutions, says that Comau is dedicated to making automation easier to use.

Comau's advanced automation across the sectors

Comau is a world leader in the development of advanced systems and products for industrial automation. It helps companies of all sizes and industry segments to harness the potential of digital manufacturing by combining innovative engineering solutions with enabling technologies and 'open', easy-to-use automation.

While many of these sectors still only employ a low level of automation are only just beginning to introduce it into their processes, Comau estimates that:

  • 80% of warehouses have limited automation
  • Robotic picking and mobile robots utilisation are expected to grow at a rate of 40% per year.

Yet, bringing advanced automation into these sectors is not without its challenges. Many of these industries are facing a lack of skilled workers.

Despite this, Comau is determined to support manufacturers and all of the sectors behind it who want to increase their automation efficiency, as they absorb advanced automation technology.

''Confirming our leadership role in advanced automation solutions powered by digital technologies, Comau is introducing new products with integrated intelligence designed to make automation increasingly easier to use, especially within non-Automotive markets where automation is growing fast,” says Nicole. “In doing so, we are helping to minimise the expertise gap while meeting diverse automation needs across a wide spectrum of industries and applications.''

Comau is leading the charge in industrial automation

Comau is a world leader in the development of advanced systems and products for industrial automation, which is why we included them in our Top 10 manufacturing leaders of 2023

Alessandro Piscioneri, Global Head of Marketing for Robotics at Comau, caught up with Manufacturing Digital to discuss zero-emission energy automation, hydrogen and industrial automation.

“Automation facilitates the process of zero-emission renewable energy generation, making much higher production volumes possible than those without automated technologies. For example, automation plays a key role in terms of increasing battery production capacity and ensuring better battery integrity/performance.”
